Why Do We Have Orphans If We Have Christians?

Many of you are aware of my affinity for TheResurgence.com - which is a repository of solid biblical teaching and 'Missional Living' resources. I have personally found it to be one the most gratifying sites on the web - it is a one stop shop for personal growth in Christ. Fantastic communicators like Anthony Bradley, godly sage men like John Piper and provocative (the good kind) modern fundamentalists (the good kind) like Mark Driscol are just some of the contributors.

Anthony Bradley recently posted an article on Christians and Adoptions and why if there is the former there should not be the latter. It is a very concise and compelling appraisal of how we 'Christians' can look directly at scripture and still ignore the word of God.

While I certainly know of some cute orphans, not every family will be called to adopt.

One point he doesn't touch on, probably because the article would no longer be concise, is that even if adoption is not the specific call for your family, there are other ways to help the fatherless.

We can provide an education and give them a future beyond their poverty and prevent them from facing having to give up their own children. We can provide basic nourishment and medical care. We can assist and financially support families who have felt called to adopt.

It is uncomfortable. It often does not feel natural. But it is commanded. By our adoptive Father.
